Samsung May Be Rethinking Galaxy Ai

Samsung appears ready to make a bold AI move. Recent leaks suggest the company is testing Perplexity as a built-in AI assistant on future Galaxy devices. If this happens, users may soon see an option beyond Google’s Gemini.

The change matters because Samsung has long relied on Google for core AI features. However, Perplexity’s growing popularity as an answer-focused AI tool could give Galaxy users a fresh choice.

‘Hey Plex’ Could Be the New Wake Word

According to findings from an APK teardown of the Perplexity Android app, Samsung may support a new wake-up command called ‘Hey Plex’. This hotword could allow users to activate the assistant hands-free, even when the phone screen is off.

The setup process seems similar to other voice assistants. Users may need to record a voiceprint and grant microphone access. At the same time, the app may allow voice data to be deleted or re-recorded later.

How Samsung Hardware Plays a Key Role

Interestingly, the feature appears deeply tied to Samsung’s own systems. New background services reportedly link Perplexity to Samsung’s hotword detection framework. This suggests the assistant is being optimised specifically for Galaxy phones.

However, there are limits. The hotword may only work using the phone’s built-in microphones. If Bluetooth earphones or external mics are connected, the assistant may stop listening.

Galaxy S26 and One UI 8.5 Could Debut the Feature

The timing also points to a flagship launch. Reports suggest Perplexity may come pre-installed on future Galaxy devices. The feature could arrive with One UI 8.5, which is expected to ship alongside the Galaxy S26 series.

If true, Samsung users may soon choose how they interact with AI on their phones. Gemini would no longer be the only voice in the room.
