Pixel Watch 4 Gets AI Gestures Boost With Hot New Smart Replies

Key Highlights

  • Pixel Watch 3 and newer benefit from untethered message replies
  • Pixel Watch 4 gains new AI-powered one-handed gestures
  • Double pinch and wrist turn let users control key features
  • Smart Replies now run on a faster on-device Gemma model

Google is rolling out a major upgrade for the Pixel Watch 4, and it arrives just in time for the holiday rush. The company is expanding gesture controls that first started with Raise to Talk. The popular feature let users speak to Gemini by lifting their wrist. Now, Pixel Watch 4 takes this idea further with two new one-handed actions.

The new Double pinch gesture triggers key shortcuts. Moreover, Wrist turn helps you scroll or move through menus without touching the display. These gestures allow you to dismiss alerts, snooze alarms, manage timers, pause music, or select Smart Replies. Transitioning between apps now feels easier because on-screen hints appear whenever Double pinch becomes available.

Faster Smart Replies on Your Wrist

Google is also pushing a breakthrough upgrade for Smart Replies. Pixel Watch 3 and newer models now use an on-device Gemma language model to generate responses quickly. This new system is almost twice as fast. It also uses nearly three times less memory.

Because everything runs on the watch, Smart Replies work even when the phone is not nearby. Therefore, users can answer messages during workouts, grocery runs, or cold-weather walks while wearing gloves.

Why These Updates Matter for Pixel Watch Users

These new features make the Pixel Watch 4 feel more independent. Users can perform everyday actions with quick wrist gestures. They can also reply to conversations without waiting for a connected phone. This shift signals a bigger move toward on-device AI on wearables.

With Gemini and Gemma running more tasks locally, Google is shaping a hands-free smartwatch experience that suits busy routines. Whether you are walking the dog, juggling shopping bags, or baking, quick actions now feel smoother and faster.
