Zuckerberg Introduces Display-Ready Smart Glasses
Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, priced at $799, at the Meta Connect 2025 event. These are Meta’s first consumer-ready smart glasses with a built-in display. They arrive as a step forward from the company’s earlier audio-only smart eyewear.
Neural Band Brings Gesture Controls
The glasses include the Meta Neural Band, a wristband powered by electromyography (EMG) technology. It lets users control the display with simple hand gestures. Zuckerberg said the glasses blend classic Ray-Ban style with advanced AI features.
Tasks Beyond Audio Functions
With the new display, users can watch videos, view and respond to text messages, and access Meta’s AI assistant. Importantly, the transparent display disappears when not in use, so it does not block the real-world view.
Launch Timeline and Pricing
The Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses will be available in the U.S. starting September 30, 2025. The $799 price point places them above Meta’s other eyewear options, but they serve as a bridge toward the company’s experimental Orion augmented reality project.
Other Smart Glasses Unveiled
Meta also launched the Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses, priced at $499, aimed at athletes in high-intensity sports like snowboarding and biking. With a wraparound design, 3K video recording, nine hours of battery life, and Garmin fitness tracking support, they go on sale October 21.
The company further introduced the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) glasses at $379. They feature double the battery life of the previous generation and an upgraded camera capable of 3K Ultra HD video capture. These glasses are already available for purchase.
Horizon TV Brings VR Entertainment
Alongside the eyewear, Zuckerberg revealed Horizon TV, a new app for Meta Quest VR headsets. It will stream movies, sporting events, and shows in partnership with Disney and Universal Pictures.
A Growing Partnership
Meta has worked with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica since 2019. Their renewed partnership continues to drive the company’s vision of combining fashion and technology in wearable devices.
