Apple MacBook Pro With M5 Pro and M5 Max Launched

Key Highlights:

  • Up to 24 hours of battery life.
  • Up to 4x faster AI performance over previous generation.
  • Up to 2x faster SSD speeds, starting at 1TB storage.
  • New Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 with Apple’s N1 chip.

Apple has introduced the new MacBook Pro with all-new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The update focuses on faster AI processing, stronger GPU performance, and quicker storage speeds. The 14-inch and 16-inch models are available for pre-order starting March 4, with sales beginning March 11.

The new MacBook Pro pushes on-device AI, unified memory bandwidth, and pro-level workflows further than before.

What Is New in the MacBook Pro?

Apple has redesigned the internals around M5 Pro and M5 Max. Both chips use a new Fusion Architecture that combines two dies into one system on a chip. The goal is simple: more performance for AI, graphics, and professional tasks.

The CPU now includes up to 18 cores. Apple claims it includes the world’s fastest CPU core. The GPU adds a Neural Accelerator in each core. This allows faster LLM prompt processing and AI image generation.

Storage speeds also jump. The new MacBook Pro delivers up to 14.5GB/s read and write speeds. That is up to 2x faster than the previous generation.

Starting storage has increased too. M5 Pro models now begin at 1TB. M5 Max models start at 2TB.

How Much Faster Is AI Performance?

Apple says the new MacBook Pro delivers up to 4x AI performance compared to the previous generation. Compared to M1 models, the gains reach up to 8x.

Here’s what that means in practical terms:

  • Up to 7.8x faster AI image generation versus M1 Pro
  • Up to 6.9x faster LLM prompt processing versus M1 Pro
  • Up to 5.4x faster video effects rendering in DaVinci Resolve Studio versus M1 Max
  • Up to 3.5x faster AI video enhancement in Topaz Video

Developers can now run advanced LLMs locally in apps like LM Studio. Researchers can train custom AI models on-device. Creators can edit 4K and 8K video timelines with fewer delays.

Unified memory bandwidth also increases. M5 Pro supports up to 64GB memory with 307GB/s bandwidth. M5 Max supports up to 128GB memory with 614GB/s bandwidth.

What About Graphics and Gaming?

The GPU architecture improves across both chips. Apple says graphics performance rises by up to 50 percent compared to M4 Pro and M4 Max.

For gaming, the company reports up to 1.6x faster performance in titles like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition compared to M4 Pro systems.

Motion designers can preview 3D scenes in real time. VFX artists can render effects faster. Engineers running simulations may see quicker results.

Does It Improve Connectivity?

Yes. Apple introduces the N1 wireless chip. It enables Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

Wi-Fi 7 improves bandwidth and reliability. That matters for cloud collaboration and large file transfers. Bluetooth 6 enhances device stability and responsiveness.

The new MacBook Pro also includes:

  • Three Thunderbolt 5 ports
  • HDMI with up to 8K support
  • SDXC card slot
  • MagSafe 3 charging

Users can connect up to two external displays with M5 Pro. M5 Max supports up to four high-resolution displays.

How Long Does the Battery Last?

Battery life reaches up to 24 hours. Apple says Intel-based upgraders could gain up to 13 extra hours. Users moving from M1 models may get up to three additional hours.

Fast charging is supported. The system can reach 50 percent in 30 minutes using a 96W or higher USB-C adapter.

Importantly, performance remains consistent whether plugged in or on battery.

What Role Does macOS Tahoe Play?

The new MacBook Pro runs on macOS Tahoe. The update introduces major Spotlight improvements. Users can search and act directly from the search bar.

Apple Intelligence features expand inside Messages, FaceTime, and Phone apps. Live Translation translates both text and audio. Developers can access Foundation Models for on-device intelligence.

The design also shifts to Liquid Glass visuals. Control Center gets customization upgrades. Folder and app icon colors can now be personalized.

Is It Built Sustainably?

Apple says the MacBook Pro contains 45 percent recycled content. The enclosure uses 100 percent recycled aluminum. The battery includes 100 percent recycled cobalt.

The supply chain runs on 50 percent renewable electricity. Packaging is fully fiber-based and recyclable.

Apple continues its target to reach carbon neutrality across its footprint by 2030.

Availability and Pricing Window

The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models come in space black and silver. Pre-orders start March 4. Availability begins March 11.
