Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold Makes Its First Public Appearance
Samsung has officially showcased its first trifold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, signalling a bold new direction for foldable devices. On January 8, 2026, the company presented the phone to the media, offering a closer look at its most experimental design so far.
Meanwhile, Samsung already sells the Galaxy Z TriFold in select global markets. In the UAE, the phone carries a price of AED 11,999, which converts to roughly ₹2.93 lakh. As a result, Samsung positions the device firmly in the ultra-premium segment.
Triple-Fold Display Designed for New Use Cases
The highlight of the Galaxy Z TriFold is its 10-inch inward-folding AMOLED display. The large screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate and reaches 1,600 nits of peak brightness. When folded, the phone turns into a more familiar form factor with a 6.5-inch LTPO AMOLED cover display, which goes up to 2,600 nits in brightness.
Despite the complex hinge system and three panels, the phone weighs 309 grams. While it is heavier than standard smartphones, the weight reflects the engineering needed to support a triple-fold design.
Charger in the Box and Flagship Performance
Interestingly, Samsung includes a 45W fast charger inside the box, a move that stands out in 2026 when most premium phones skip bundled chargers altogether. The phone draws power from a 5,600mAh battery, split across its three folding sections.
On the performance front, the Galaxy Z TriFold runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. It also features a flagship camera setup led by a 200MP primary sensor, accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP telephoto lens. For selfies and video calls, Samsung offers two 10MP front cameras, one on the cover screen and another on the main display.
India Launch: Testing the Waters
With the Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung appears to be exploring how consumers respond to a triple-fold smartphone. The company is gathering feedback and studying usage patterns in markets where the device is already available.
For now, Samsung has not confirmed an India launch. That leads to a key question for the market:
Is India ready to accept a smartphone priced close to ₹3 lakh, and can Samsung convince buyers that a trifold phone justifies that cost?
As foldables continue to evolve, the Galaxy Z TriFold signals where the category could be headed next.
