iPhone 17 Air Display Size Possibly Revealed in iOS 26 Beta 2
Apple may have accidentally dropped a big hint about its rumored iPhone 17 Air in the latest iOS 26 beta. A wallpaper buried in the update could point to the display resolution of the upcoming slim iPhone.
A Closer Look at the Clownfish Wallpaper Leak
Macworld recently spotted a revamped version of the classic iOS clownfish wallpaper. What caught attention wasn’t just the design, but its unusual resolution: 420×912@3x, which translates to 1260 x 2736 pixels.
This resolution doesn’t match any current iPhone model, making tech watchers believe it may be tied to Apple’s next new device — likely the iPhone 17 Air.
Rumors Align with the Resolution
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously suggested that the new Air will feature a 6.6-inch display. He also predicted a display resolution of around 1260 x 2740 pixels, which is extremely close to what was found in the wallpaper leak.
While this isn’t official confirmation, it does add weight to speculation that Apple is preparing a brand-new screen size for the iPhone 17 lineup.
Where the iPhone 17 Air Fits in the Lineup
The phone is expected to be slimmer than any iPhone ever made, possibly measuring just 5.5mm thick. That’s significantly thinner than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
With its 6.6-inch display, the Air model would sit between the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro in terms of screen size.
More Than Just a Slim Design
Beyond the screen size, the iPhone 17 Air might introduce several hardware changes:
- A single-lens rear camera, suggesting a lighter and minimalistic design
- Apple’s new C1 modem, expected to offer improved connectivity and power efficiency
- Likely made with advanced materials to support the ultra-thin form
Coming This September?
The iPhone 17 series, including the rumored Air model, is expected to launch this September 2025. Since the wallpaper was found in iOS 26 Beta 2, and iOS 26 will come pre-installed on the new iPhones, the dots start connecting.
For now, this remains a speculative but exciting glimpse at what Apple might reveal in just a few months.
