HP’s new 49-inch curved monitor hides a smart pop-up webcam

HP unveils massive 49-inch curved ultrawide monitor

HP has announced the Series 5 Pro 49-inch Conferencing Monitor, designed for productivity and office collaboration. The new ultrawide monitor features a 32:9 VA panel with 5120 x 1440 resolution, offering the equivalent of two 27-inch displays side by side.

The curved panel has an 1800R curvature, making multitasking easier and more immersive. HP aims the monitor at professionals who need more screen space for office tasks, presentations, and meetings.

A pop-up webcam for secure video calls

One standout feature of the Series 5 Pro is its hidden 5-megapixel pop-up webcam. The camera supports Windows Hello facial recognition for faster and safer logins. It remains concealed until unlocked by a push, adding a privacy layer compared to traditional webcams.

This feature sets it apart from competitors like Samsung, Dell, Lenovo, and LG, which offer ultrawide monitors without integrated pop-up cameras.

Virtual multi-display and office-friendly design

HP demonstrated software that allows the 49-inch monitor to act as two or three virtual displays, simulating a multi-monitor setup without physical screens.

The display also covers 99 percent of the sRGB color space and reaches a 165Hz refresh rate. However, its 5ms response time and 8-bit color depth make it less suitable for gaming or professional content creation.

The rear of the monitor includes HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, ethernet, and USB ports, with KVM functionality for controlling multiple PCs with a single keyboard and mouse.

Built for productivity, not gaming

While the monitor’s specifications include features attractive to gamers, HP is positioning the Series 5 Pro for office use. The large display is designed for presentations, meetings, and multitasking rather than fast-paced gaming or color-critical editing.

The company emphasizes that the Series 5 Pro is ideal for professionals who need space and secure video conferencing tools.

Availability and pricing

HP confirmed that pricing details will be announced closer to the monitor’s November launch. The Series 5 Pro joins HP’s push to make workplace technology smarter and more collaboration-friendly.

With its size, smart webcam, and flexible display options, the 49-inch curved monitor is expected to appeal to businesses, remote workers, and professionals managing heavy workloads.
