Google’s $499 Pixel 10a Launches With AI Camera Magic and Seven Years of Updates

Google has launched the Pixel 10a, its latest entry-level smartphone, priced at $499. Available for preorder now, it ships starting March 5, 2026 in Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian color options.

The Pixel 10a packs new AI features, brighter screen technology, and crucial safety tools while keeping the Tensor G4 chip from last year’s flagship A-series model.

What’s New in the Pixel 10a?

The Pixel 10a sports a 6.3-inch Actua display that’s 11% brighter than the Pixel 9a, making it easier to read outdoors. The redesigned flat back means the camera bar blends seamlessly with the surface, lying flat when placed on tables.

Its charging speed is noticeably faster, with more than 30 hours of standard battery life and up to 120 hours with Extreme Battery Saver.

AI Camera Tools in an Affordable Pixel

Building on last summer’s flagship Pixel 10 launch, Google brings Auto Best Take and Camera Coach to the A-series. The 48 MP main camera and 13 MP ultrawide lens use these tools to optimize group shots and guide users through lighting and composition.

Google claims this is the best camera on a phone under $500, giving budget users access to advanced image processing.

Safety Features Come to the A-Series

For the first time, the Pixel 10a adds Satellite SOS, enabling contact with emergency services even without Wi-Fi or mobile coverage — a feature previously limited to higher-end Pixels.

Owners also get seven years of software and security updates, which extends the device’s usability without extra costs.

Not Everything Made the Cut

Unlike the Pixel 10 flagship models, the Pixel 10a skips the PixelSnap magnetic Qi charging feature. Still, it supports rapid wired charging and the same Google AI experience as pricier siblings.

Competing Against Apple’s iPhone 17e

The launch precedes Apple’s expected unveiling of the iPhone 17e at $599. With its lower price point, AI features, and extended update support, the Pixel 10a aims directly at that market segment.
