Apple is reportedly working on a radically redesigned iPhone for 2027, the 20th anniversary of the iconic device. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter, the company is developing a “mostly glass, curved” iPhone model that will feature no visible display cutouts, offering a completely edge-to-edge screen experience.
This aligns with recent reports from The Information, which claim that at least one 2027 iPhone model will have an under-display front-facing camera. Combined with earlier reporting from The Elec, which noted Apple’s efforts toward a bezel-less display (though not one curved at the edges like Samsung’s or Vivo’s), the 2027 iPhone could represent the most significant hardware redesign in years.
The idea of a “mostly glass” iPhone is not entirely new. Apple already uses glass for the front and back panels of current models like the iPhone 15 Pro. However, Gurman’s use of the term suggests a more integrated, continuous glass body. This echoes a 2019 Apple patent that describes a device encased in a glass shell that “forms a continuous loop” around the phone — hinting at a futuristic, seamless design.
A Packed Product Year
Gurman also says that 2027 will be a pivotal year across Apple’s product ecosystem. In addition to the redesigned iPhone, he reiterates previous claims that Apple is targeting the same year for the launch of its first foldable iPhone. This device would mark Apple’s entry into a market segment already occupied by Samsung, Google, and others.
Other planned releases for 2027 reportedly include Apple’s smart glasses, positioned to rival Meta’s Ray-Ban smart eyewear. Gurman also expects the company to debut camera-equipped versions of the AirPods and Apple Watch, enhancing their utility with new imaging capabilities.
The Rise of Apple AI and Home Robotics
Perhaps most notably, Gurman reports that Apple is developing a home robot that will serve as a tabletop assistant. The robot would feature a built-in AI assistant with a distinct personality—evoking comparisons to an experimental robotic lamp shown in previous Apple research.
On the AI front, Apple may finally introduce a version of Siri powered by large language models (LLMs) by 2027. A December report from The Information said that Apple’s Israel-based silicon team, which played a key role in developing Apple’s in-house M-series chips, is now designing custom server chips for AI processing. These chips would enable Apple to process advanced AI tasks in the cloud, rather than solely on devices.
If these timelines hold, 2027 could be one of the most transformative years in Apple’s history, signaling a shift toward more immersive, intelligent, and interactive product experiences.
