Sony Honda Afeela 1 Signals a New Kind of Electric Car
Sony and Honda are officially entering the EV race together. Their first production car, the Sony Honda Afeela 1, is not just about driving. It is about digital experiences on the move.
Priced from US$89,900, the Afeela 1 positions itself as a premium electric sedan. However, its biggest talking point is not range or speed. It is gaming. This EV wants to turn road trips into screen time.
PlayStation Gaming Comes to the Car
The Sony Honda Afeela 1 is the first car to feature native PlayStation Remote Play support. Passengers can stream games directly from a PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4.
The games appear on the large central display or rear seat screens. Sony allows gameplay using a DualSense controller or touchscreen input. However, it needs a stable internet connection.
Sony recommends a 15Mbps download speed for smooth gaming. The system works best when the car is parked or used by rear passengers.
This move highlights Sony’s focus on in-car entertainment. The Afeela 1 treats the cabin like a digital living space.
Strong EV Hardware Under the Screens
Beyond entertainment, the Sony Honda Afeela 1 delivers serious electric performance. It uses a 91kWh battery paired with dual motors.
The all-wheel-drive system produces up to 360kW. This places the car firmly in the premium EV segment. Sony and Honda have not revealed acceleration figures yet.
Two variants are planned. The base model starts at US$89,900. The fully loaded launch edition costs US$102,900.
Software-Defined Down to the Details
The Afeela 1 reflects Sony Honda Mobility’s software-first approach. Even the license plate goes digital.
The car ships with a Reviver digital license plate. This allows updates and customization over time. It reinforces the idea that every part of the vehicle can evolve through software.
Sony Honda calls this a software-defined vehicle. Entertainment, interfaces, and features are expected to grow after purchase.
Limited Launch, Global Curiosity
Sales of the Sony Honda Afeela 1 begin next year. California will be the first market. A wider global rollout has not been confirmed yet.
The Afeela 1 shows how far carmakers are pushing digital integration. It blends mobility with gaming, software, and connected experiences.
For now, it stands as one of the boldest experiments in the EV space.
