Huawei has officially launched the Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 globally, marking its return to professional running watches after a five-year gap. The smartwatch debuts with Intelligent Marathon Mode, a redesigned 3D floating antenna system, and advanced performance metrics aimed at serious runners. The launch took place in Madrid alongside Huawei’s latest premium devices.

Designed for structured training and race-day precision, the Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 targets both amateur and elite runners. Huawei says the wearable delivers improved GPS accuracy, long battery life, and deep health insights, all packed into a lightweight titanium build.

What is new in Huawei Watch GT Runner 2?

The Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 introduces a new Intelligent Marathon Mode developed in collaboration with the DSM-Firmenich Running Team. This mode focuses on long-distance training and competitive race preparation.

Runners receive structured training plans based on fitness levels and race goals. The watch also delivers real-time race data, including pace tracking, predicted finish time, and distance gaps against targets. These features aim to reduce guesswork during long runs and competitive events.

Huawei positions this smartwatch as a performance-first wearable rather than a lifestyle accessory. The design and software both reflect that focus.

How does Intelligent Marathon Mode work?

Intelligent Marathon Mode uses historical run data, training load, and recovery metrics to guide users through preparation cycles. It adjusts training intensity dynamically and offers pacing support during races.

The watch includes a digital pacer that helps runners maintain consistent speed. Fueling reminders prompt users to hydrate or refuel during long sessions. Advanced metrics such as lactate threshold, running power, and a Running Ability Index provide deeper insights into endurance and efficiency.

Post-run analysis happens inside the Huawei Health app. Users can view recovery suggestions, running form analysis, and workload balance, helping them plan upcoming sessions more effectively.

Display and durability details explained

The Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 features a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a 466×466 resolution. Peak brightness reaches up to 3,000 nits, making the screen readable even under direct sunlight.

Huawei protects the display with second-generation Kunlun Glass, which the company says improves resistance against drops and scratches. This matters for runners who train outdoors and on uneven terrain.

The smartwatch carries both 5ATM water resistance and an IP69 dust and water resistance rating. It supports swimming, trail running, and freediving up to 40 meters.

Why is the 3D floating antenna important?

One of the biggest hardware upgrades is the new 3D floating antenna architecture. Huawei claims this design improves positioning accuracy by 20 percent compared to previous models.

The Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 supports dual-band L1+L5 GPS and multiple satellite systems. These include GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, and NavIC. The watch can continue tracking distance and routes even when GPS signals briefly drop in tunnels or dense urban areas.

This upgrade directly targets runners who train in cities or challenging environments where GPS drift is common.

Sports modes and health tracking features

Beyond running, the Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 supports over 100 sports modes. These include cycling, swimming, trail running, golf, and strength training. Golf mode offers access to more than 17,000 courses in select markets.

Health tracking remains a core focus. The smartwatch includes ECG monitoring, heart rate variability analysis, blood oxygen tracking, sleep monitoring with breathing awareness, and stress measurement.

These features allow users to track both performance and recovery without switching devices.

Battery life and smart features

Huawei claims the Watch GT Runner 2 delivers up to 14 days of battery life under light usage. Typical usage should last up to seven days. In outdoor workout mode with precise positioning enabled, battery life is rated at up to 32 hours.

The smartwatch supports wireless charging. It also includes Bluetooth calling, NFC payments, standalone music playback, and QR code scanning. These features reduce smartphone dependency during workouts.

Build quality and comfort

The watch uses a titanium alloy for the case, bezel, crown, and buttons. The watch measures 43.5×43.5×10.7mm and weighs about 34.5 grams without the strap.

Huawei bundles a breathable AirDry woven strap that improves airflow by 25 percent, according to the company. A fluoroelastomer strap is also included for users who prefer a traditional sports band.

The lightweight build is designed to minimize wrist fatigue during long training sessions.

Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 price and availability

In the UK, the new GT Runner 2 is priced at GBP 350, roughly Rs. 42,900. It is available through the Huawei UK website in Dawn Orange, Dusk Blue, and Midnight Black.

Huawei has not confirmed availability timelines for other regions yet. A wider rollout is expected in the coming weeks.

The smartwatch launched alongside the Huawei Mate 80 Pro and the Huawei MatePad Mini, signaling a broader global push for Huawei’s hardware ecosystem.
