Comet AI Browser Finally Lands on Android
Perplexity has launched the Comet browser on Android, months after its desktop debut. The AI-centric browser brings fast search, seamless tab control, and smarter research tools directly to mobile users. The company said it wants to make AI browsing quicker and more natural on phones.
Most Desktop Features Now on Mobile
Comet for Android carries many abilities from the desktop version. Users can set Perplexity as the default search engine. They can also mention tabs and ask questions, which helps the assistant understand context from all open pages. Moreover, the voice mode lets people speak commands and get instant answers.
The browser also summarises information across multiple tabs. Additionally, it can research and shop on behalf of users. Perplexity said people can clearly see the actions the Comet assistant performs. The Android version also includes a built-in ad blocker, which improves page load times.
New Features Coming Soon
Perplexity plans to add more tools in the coming weeks. These include conversational agents that search across sites, shortcuts for quick actions, and a full password manager. Earlier this month, the company upgraded its desktop assistant to handle tasks that run longer, such as moving large website data into spreadsheets.
iOS Version on the Way
The company said Comet will arrive on iOS soon. However, it prioritised Android because carriers and device makers requested the browser for their platforms. Perplexity already partnered with Motorola this year to preload its app on select devices, but it did not confirm whether Comet will also be pre-installed.
AI Browsers Heating Up
AI browsers are becoming a competitive space. Companies like OpenAI, Opera, and The Browser Company have also entered the race. However, most of their mobile plans are still limited. Meanwhile, experts have raised concerns about AI-powered agents and the security risks they bring. Perplexity acknowledged these risks earlier and said the industry needs fresh approaches to protect users.
