Google Photos gets smarter with new AI editing tools and expanded search support

AI editing made easy for everyone

Google Photos is rolling out new AI-powered editing features that simplify how users edit and enhance their images. The new update introduces an “Ask” button for AI requests, allowing users to describe edits using voice or text.
Now, you can say things like “make me smile” or “remove sunglasses,” and Google Photos will apply the changes instantly. This feature, already on Pixel 10 devices, is now coming to iOS users in the U.S.

Personalized photo edits with face recognition

The update adds a new personalized edits option that recognizes people from face groups in your gallery. By typing specific instructions such as “open eyes” or “add a smile,” users can make targeted changes for each person in a photo.

The “Help me edit” feature makes these actions easy through simple text prompts, powered by Google’s AI image model, Nano Banana.

Creative photo styles with Nano Banana

Google’s Nano Banana model brings fun and creativity to editing. Users can now recreate photos in different styles like Renaissance portraits or cartoon strips.

Google is also adding AI templates to help users transform a single photo into a new format. These options will appear under the Create tab next week on Android in the U.S. and India—two regions where Nano Banana is already popular.

Smarter search in more countries

The company is expanding its AI-powered search in Google Photos to over 100 countries, including India, Japan, Brazil, and Australia. Users can now find images faster using natural language queries like “beach trip in 2022” or “birthday with red balloons.”

Google has also added 17 new languages, including Hindi, Japanese, and Spanish, to make the search experience more inclusive and accessible.

A more helpful Photos app

Alongside the editing upgrades, Google Photos now sports a refreshed design with smart suggestion chips that guide users through AI features. Whether you want to edit, organize, or find photos, the new AI tools make it faster and simpler.

With these updates, Google Photos continues to bridge creativity and convenience — one AI edit at a time.
