Google Meet Solves WFH Woes with New AI Makeup Feature
Working from home has its perks, but last-minute video calls can be stressful. Google Meet now has a solution for that with its new AI-powered makeup filter. The update aims to help users look their best on camera — without reaching for real makeup.
Bringing Virtual Makeup to Your Screen
The feature, which started rolling out on October 8, 2025, lets users apply virtual makeup directly in Google Meet. It’s part of the existing “Portrait touch-up” feature introduced in 2023, which already offered options like complexion smoothing and eye whitening.
Now, Google has added 12 new makeup styles to choose from. These include subtle, natural looks as well as bolder options—helping users express their personal style during calls.
Realistic and Responsive, Thanks to AI
What makes this update stand out is its precision. Google says the AI-powered makeup stays perfectly aligned with a user’s face, even when they move. So if you sip your coffee or turn your head, the filter won’t slide off your face or stick to your mug.
This attention to detail is powered by machine learning models that map facial features in real time. The goal is to make digital touch-ups feel as natural as possible, blending seamlessly into the video feed.
Easy to Use, No Setup Needed
The feature is disabled by default but can be enabled before or during a video call. You can find it under Settings → Appearance → Portrait touch-up → Makeup.
Once selected, your chosen style is automatically saved for future meetings. That means you won’t need to set it up every time you join a call.
Google has also made the rollout simple for businesses and educators. There’s no admin setup required—end users can turn the feature on themselves.
Who Can Use It
The AI makeup filter is available for:
- Google Workspace Business Standard and Plus
- Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus
- Education Plus and the Teaching & Learning add-on
- Google Workspace Individual and Google One subscribers
The rollout is gradual, taking up to 15 days for all users across web and mobile platforms to see the feature.
