What’s New?
Google is giving its AI image-editing model, Nano Banana, a wider stage. The company is now integrating the Gemini 2.5 Flash-based tool directly into Google Search via Lens. This means users can soon create, edit, and transform images with AI without leaving the Google app.
Originally introduced in August as part of the Gemini ecosystem, Nano Banana has already generated over five billion images inside the Gemini app. Now, Google is taking the next step by embedding the same technology in products that millions already use every day — Search, NotebookLM, and soon, Photos.
Creative Editing Comes to Google Search
Within Search, the new feature lives inside Google Lens. Users can either snap a photo using their phone’s camera or pick one from their gallery. Once selected, a new “Create” mode appears, letting AI instantly reimagine the image. It could change backgrounds, restyle visuals, or even blend objects seamlessly, all in a matter of seconds.
Every edited image will include visible and invisible markers, such as SynthID watermarks, ensuring clear identification of AI-generated content. Google says this rollout will make creative visual exploration accessible to anyone, whether they are searching, learning, or experimenting with visuals.
Nano Banana Enhances NotebookLM
Nano Banana isn’t just for Search. It now works quietly inside NotebookLM — Google’s AI research and summarization tool. The model powers new “Video Overviews” that turn dense notes into visually rich explainers. Users can now choose from six new illustration styles, including watercolor and anime, giving summaries a more engaging and creative look.
A new “Brief” format also debuts within NotebookLM, designed for quick insights and bite-sized takeaways. These improvements are powered by Nano Banana’s ability to generate contextual illustrations directly from a user’s notes or sources, making summaries easier to understand.
Coming Soon to Google Photos
Google isn’t stopping there. In the coming weeks, Nano Banana will arrive in Google Photos as well. The same AI editing tools available in Search will extend to your photo library, allowing instant transformations right inside the app. Users will be able to retouch, restyle, and reimagine their personal photos while maintaining a realistic and consistent look.
