Your Thumb Is Your Wallet: Proxgy Unveils ThumbPay in India

Proxgy Launches ThumbPay in India

Gurugram-based IoT startup Proxgy has announced ThumbPay, a Made-in-India device that turns your thumb into your wallet. Priced under ₹2,000, ThumbPay allows people to pay using just their thumbprint—no phone, no card, no cash. By linking Aadhaar with UPI, the device aims to make digital payments simple, secure, and accessible to all.

Founder and CEO Pulkit Ahuja said, “India did the hard work building Aadhaar and UPI over the last decade; ThumbPay is a creative synthesis of these platforms. By letting people transact with nothing but their inherent identity, ThumbPay embodies the spirit of ‘Digital India, by India’.”

How It Works

ThumbPay combines Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in a single step. A customer places their thumb on the scanner, Aadhaar verifies identity, and UPI instantly transfers funds. Payments are completed in seconds without apps or QR codes.

This approach makes every thumb a payment instrument, ensuring interoperability across all banks and merchants.

Designed for Everyday India

ThumbPay is compact, battery-powered, and built for both urban and rural use. It includes:

  • STQC-certified thumb scanner with fraud prevention
  • Tiny camera for added checks and QR scanning
  • UV sterilization for hygiene in public use
  • Integrated keypad and display for PIN input
  • 4G, Wi-Fi, and LoRaWAN support for poor connectivity zones
  • Sound box function for instant payment confirmations

With these features, ThumbPay replaces multiple devices at shop counters and ensures reliability even in areas without stable electricity.

Payments Without Smartphones

Every Indian with an Aadhaar-linked bank account can already use ThumbPay. That means hundreds of millions of people are automatically covered. For street vendors, kirana stores, and rural markets, the device removes the need for smartphones or apps.

Pulkit Ahuja added, “Your identity becomes your payment instrument, rendering physical tokens obsolete.”

From Pilots to Rollout

ThumbPay has been tested at select merchants under controlled pilots. Users found the checkout process fast and convenient, while merchants valued the instant confirmations.

Proxgy is now working with UIDAI and NPCI for regulatory approvals. After clearance, a phased rollout will begin with banks and fintech partners. Subsidized models could help small shopkeepers adopt the device easily.
