Introducing Researcher and Analyst: AI Agents for Enhanced Productivity
Microsoft has unveiled two innovative AI agents, Researcher and Analyst, designed to augment the capabilities of Microsoft 365 Copilot. These agents aim to assist users by providing advanced research insights and data analysis, streamlining complex tasks within the workplace.
Researcher: Your AI-Powered Research Assistant
Researcher is crafted to help users navigate complex, multi-step research tasks with improved accuracy and depth. By integrating OpenAI’s deep research model with Microsoft 365 Copilot’s orchestration and search functionalities, Researcher can analyze extensive internal work data — such as emails, meetings, files, and chats — and external information from the web. This enables users to develop detailed strategies, identify new market opportunities, and compile comprehensive reports. Additionally, Researcher can connect with third-party platforms like Salesforce and ServiceNow, enriching its analytical capabilities.
Analyst: Transforming Data into Actionable Insights
Analyst functions akin to a skilled data scientist, converting raw data into meaningful insights swiftly. Utilizing OpenAI’s o3-mini reasoning model, Analyst employs chain-of-thought reasoning to iteratively process data, ensuring thorough analysis. It supports Python execution, allowing users to handle complex data queries and visualize outcomes, such as demand forecasts or revenue projections.
Integration with Microsoft Copilot Studio
Alongside these agents, Microsoft has introduced deep reasoning and agent flows within Microsoft Copilot Studio. This platform enables organizations to create, manage, and deploy custom agents tailored to specific business needs. The integration of deep reasoning allows these agents to perform complex tasks, while agent flows facilitate the automation of business processes.
Availability and IT Governance
Researcher and Analyst will be available to Microsoft 365 Copilot license holders starting in April through the “Frontier” program, offering early access to these innovations. To ensure secure deployment, the Copilot Control System provides IT administrators with tools to manage access and usage, maintaining compliance with organizational policies.
