The DVF-EL1 detachable OLED viewfinder costs Rs. 1,05,990, while the XLR-H2 handle unit is priced at Rs. 1,33,990. Sony’s VMC-BNCU1 timecode adapter cable costs Rs. 13,990.

What the Sony FX5 can do: Open Gate and high-frame-rate video
The FX5 uses a 35mm full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor and Sony’s BIONZ XR2 image processor. It supports Open Gate recording with a 3:2 full-pixel sensor readout. This gives creators more room to reframe footage for different aspect ratios during editing.
The camera records 5K video at up to 60fps. It can also capture 4K footage at up to 120fps and Full-HD video at up to 240fps. These higher frame rates give filmmakers more options for slow-motion sequences.
For post-production flexibility, the FX5 supports internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW recording. It also records in XAVC HS and XAVC S formats. Sony claims more than 15 stops of dynamic range when shooting in S-Log3.
Full-frame sensor, three base ISO settings and AI autofocus
The Sony FX5 offers three base ISO settings: 800, 4,000 and 12,800. Its Dual Gain Shooting system helps reduce noise while retaining shadow details. These options can help creators adapt to different lighting conditions, including darker scenes.
The Fast Hybrid autofocus system includes up to 759 phase-detection points. Its dedicated AI processing unit recognises humans, animals and birds. Real-time Tracking helps keep moving subjects in focus, which can be useful for documentary work, events and wildlife footage.
Five-axis in-body image stabilisation offers Standard, Active and Dynamic Active modes. The camera also includes a 3.5-inch multi-angle touchscreen with approximately 2.76 million dots for framing and monitoring.
Audio, connectivity and battery life
The FX5 supports four-channel audio recording. When paired with the optional XLR-H2 handle unit, it can record 32-bit float audio at up to 96kHz. This setup offers additional flexibility for professional audio capture.
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, HDMI, two USB Type-C ports, a microphone input and a headphone jack. A wired LAN port supports remote camera operation and network streaming. The camera also supports USB Power Delivery.
Sony’s FX5 uses a rechargeable NP-SA100 battery. The company claims up to 105 minutes of actual movie recording and up to 170 minutes of continuous recording. These figures can vary with settings and operating conditions.
Who is the Sony FX5 for?
The FX5 is aimed at filmmakers and production teams that need a full-frame camera with advanced recording options. Open Gate capture can simplify reframing for multiple formats, while high-frame-rate recording supports slow motion. AI subject tracking, image stabilisation and professional audio options add flexibility for demanding shoots.
