News in Short
- EPFO WhatsApp services let members check PF balance, passbook details and their latest five transactions.
- The service also offers guidance for requirements under the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.
- Eligible Aadhaar-verified inactive PF accounts with up to Rs. 1,000 will be settled automatically.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced WhatsApp services to make routine provident fund (PF) information easier to access. Members can now check their PF balance, view passbook details and review their latest five transactions through the messaging platform. The service was announced by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya during EPFO’s 74th Foundation Day celebrations on Sunday.
How to access EPFO services on WhatsApp
The new facility allows subscribers to retrieve selected account details through EPFO’s verified WhatsApp service. This includes their PF balance, passbook information and details of the five most recent transactions. Members can use the service for these routine queries without visiting an EPFO office.
EPFO has also added personalised guidance for members completing requirements under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY). The service aims to make relevant information more accessible through a familiar digital platform.
The Labour Ministry said the facility forms part of EPFO’s wider effort to simplify access to its services. The organisation already provides account-related services through its web portal. The WhatsApp option aligns with the broader EPFO 3.0 framework, which focuses on improving the digital experience for subscribers.
EPFO to automatically settle eligible inactive accounts
Alongside the WhatsApp facility, EPFO has introduced automatic settlement for eligible inoperative Employees’ Provident Fund accounts. Subscribers with Aadhaar-verified inactive accounts holding up to Rs. 1,000 will not need to submit individual claims to receive their dues.
EPFO will initiate the settlement after completing the prescribed identity and bank account verification. The eligible amount will then be transferred to the rightful beneficiary. The Labour Ministry expects the initiative to benefit around one lakh accounts, involving approximately Rs. 5 crore.
The move could help members recover small, unclaimed PF balances with less paperwork. However, automatic settlement applies only to accounts that meet the stated eligibility and verification requirements.
What this means for EPF subscribers
The WhatsApp service gives subscribers another way to check basic PF information on their phones. It may reduce the need to navigate the portal or visit an EPFO office for routine account queries. Members should use only EPFO’s verified WhatsApp service and avoid sharing account credentials or sensitive information with unverified contacts.
