Samsung has reportedly started rolling out its Android 17-based One UI 9 update to select older Galaxy flagship phones. The update is reaching some Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 users in South Korea.
The rollout appears limited to users enrolled in the One UI 9 beta programme. Samsung has not announced wider availability for these devices. The update reportedly brings new Galaxy AI features and privacy-related additions.
One UI 9 reaches older Galaxy flagships
According to posts on Samsung Community forums, select Galaxy S23 users in South Korea are receiving the stable One UI 9 update. The rollout is not yet widespread.
The reported firmware versions for the Galaxy S23 series include S918NKSU8GZIF and S918NOKR8GZIF. The supplied report also lists S918NKSU8GZIF again, so the complete version details may need confirmation.
Samsung is expected to extend the update to more Galaxy S23 users in India and other markets in the coming weeks. However, the company has not confirmed a regional rollout schedule.
The update could cover the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. These devices launched in 2023 and could become among the oldest Galaxy flagship phones to receive One UI 9.
Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 also get the update
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are also reportedly receiving the update in South Korea. As with the Galaxy S23 series, the rollout appears restricted to beta programme participants.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 update reportedly carries firmware versions F946NKSU6HZIJ and F946NOKR6HZIJ. Its reported download size is 485.41MB.
Users should connect to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading the update. They should also keep sufficient battery charge and back up important data before installing major software updates.
Samsung has not shared a confirmed timeline for the wider rollout to these foldable phones.
What does One UI 9 bring?
One UI 9 is based on Android 17 and includes additions to Samsung’s software and Galaxy AI experience. The reported feature set includes Privacy Alerts, Security Brief, My FanCam and Scam Detection tools.
Privacy-related features could help users understand potential risks and manage their devices more confidently. Galaxy AI additions may also expand the ways users interact with supported apps and services.
However, feature availability can vary by device, region and hardware capability. The presence of One UI 9 does not necessarily mean every new feature will reach every eligible phone.
Samsung began rolling out the stable update to the Galaxy S26 series in September, according to the report. The software debuted earlier with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in July.
How to check for the One UI 9 update
Galaxy users can manually check whether the update is available on their phones. Open Settings, select Software update, and tap Download and install.
If the update does not appear, it may not have reached the device or region yet. Users should avoid installing firmware from unofficial sources.
Samsung has yet to confirm the wider rollout schedule for the Galaxy S23 series and fifth-generation foldables. For now, availability appears limited to select beta testers in South Korea.
