Samsung Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ may retain the 12-megapixel selfie camera used in recent Galaxy S series phones. A new report suggests that Samsung could reserve a front camera upgrade for its higher-end Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra models.
The Galaxy S27 series is expected to launch in early 2027. Samsung has not confirmed the lineup, specifications or launch timeline. However, recent leaks suggest the company could introduce four models next year, including a new Pro variant.
Galaxy S27 and S27+ may retain 12MP selfie cameras
According to a report by GalaxyClub, the Samsung Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ could feature 12-megapixel front-facing cameras. If accurate, this would continue a camera setup Samsung has used across its flagship Galaxy S lineup since the Galaxy S23 series arrived in February 2023.
The resolution alone does not determine selfie quality. Image processing, sensor characteristics, lens design and software can also affect skin tones, detail and low-light performance.
Still, retaining the same resolution for another generation could disappoint users hoping for a more visible hardware upgrade. Samsung could make improvements through software, but the current leak does not establish whether the company plans any such changes.
The report also suggests that the Galaxy S27 and S27+ will retain triple rear camera systems. These could include a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera.
Samsung may upgrade the primary camera, although the leak does not provide confirmed details about the sensor or its capabilities.
Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra could get a 16MP front camera
The reported camera strategy could create a clearer distinction between the standard Galaxy S27 models and their more expensive siblings.
GalaxyClub claims that the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra could feature 16-megapixel selfie cameras. That would represent a resolution increase over the 12-megapixel front camera reported for the standard and Plus models.
For comparison, the Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 12-megapixel front camera with an f/2.2 aperture, according to the specifications cited in the report.
However, a higher megapixel count does not automatically guarantee better selfies or video calls. The sensor, optics and image processing will also influence the final results. Samsung has not confirmed the reported upgrade or shared sample images.
Galaxy S27 series could include four models
The Galaxy S27 lineup could differ from the current generation by adding the rumoured Pro model. The expected range would comprise the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra.
Earlier reports have also suggested different starting prices across markets. However, these figures remain unconfirmed and should not be treated as official Indian pricing.
For now, the camera details remain part of the rumour cycle. Samsung has yet to announce the Galaxy S27 series. More concrete information about the sensors, image processing and other upgrades should emerge closer to launch.
If the latest report proves accurate, Samsung may focus its front camera hardware upgrade on the Pro and Ultra models. Buyers considering the standard Galaxy S27 or S27+ may need to look beyond megapixel counts to assess whether the next generation offers meaningful camera improvements.
