HP has launched the ZBook Ultra G3a in India at ₹2,89,990. The laptop is available through HP-authorised online and offline retail partners. It comes in a single grey colour option.

HP positions the ZBook Ultra G3a as a mobile workstation for professionals working in artificial intelligence, engineering, design and content creation. Its focus on local AI processing, high memory capacity and workstation hardware sets it apart from conventional productivity laptops.

HP ZBook Ultra G3a specifications and features

The HP ZBook Ultra G3a features a 16-inch OLED display with a 2.8K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The combination targets professionals who need detailed visuals and smooth on-screen movement for design and creative workflows.

The laptop runs Windows 11 Pro and uses up to an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 processor. The chip features a 16-core CPU and reaches clock speeds of up to 5.2GHz. It also includes AMD graphics and a neural processing unit rated at 55 TOPS.

Memory is another key feature. The ZBook Ultra G3a supports up to 192GB of unified memory, including up to 160GB allocated as dedicated VRAM, according to the supplied specifications. This configuration is designed for memory-intensive professional applications and AI workloads.

HP ZBook Ultra G3a focuses on local AI workloads

HP says the ZBook Ultra G3a can run large language models with up to 300 billion parameters locally. Its 55 TOPS NPU also supports AI processing on the device.

Local processing can help professionals work with AI tools without sending every task to a cloud service. It may also benefit workflows involving sensitive business information, depending on the software and how it handles data.

However, support for models with up to 300 billion parameters is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee that every such model will run at practical speeds. Actual performance will depend on model quantisation, memory requirements, software optimisation and the workload.

HP also says the laptop’s updated thermal design enables up to 81.8% higher thermal design power (TDP). This could help the system sustain demanding workloads, although real-world performance will depend on the configuration and operating conditions.

Keyboard, security and connectivity

The laptop features a backlit, hot-swappable keyboard and a dedicated Copilot key. The hot-swappable design allows the keyboard to be replaced without treating it as a permanently integrated component. A fingerprint scanner provides biometric authentication.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi and 5G cellular support. The laptop also features a 96Wh battery and supports USB Type-C wired charging at up to 180W.

HP claims up to 14 hours of battery life on a single charge. Actual endurance will vary with screen brightness, network usage, applications and AI workloads.

Despite its workstation focus, the ZBook Ultra G3a measures 17.9mm thick and weighs approximately 1.9kg. This makes portability a central part of its design for professionals who need workstation capabilities away from a desk.

Is the HP ZBook Ultra G3a worth considering?

The ZBook Ultra G3a targets professionals who need substantial memory, workstation-class capabilities and local AI processing in a portable system. Its high memory ceiling and dedicated AI hardware could appeal to developers, designers and engineers running demanding applications.

At ₹2,89,990, it is a premium workstation rather than a mainstream laptop. Buyers should assess their software requirements, memory needs and expected AI workloads before choosing a configuration. The laptop’s claimed support for large language models is notable, but practical performance will depend on the specific model and application.
