OpenAI has started rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT, bringing a bigger change than a simple model upgrade. The new version can turn conversations into interactive experiences.
With its new Intelligent UI, ChatGPT can present answers using charts, graphics, forms, buttons and other interactive elements. It can also build tools such as calculators and games directly inside a conversation.
The update also focuses on speed. GPT-6 can begin displaying an answer while it continues working on the rest of the request. OpenAI says it has also improved the model’s web-search performance.
GPT-6 brings a new interactive layer to ChatGPT
The biggest change with GPT-6 is how ChatGPT presents information.
Instead of always returning a block of text, the chatbot can now decide when an interactive format would work better. Depending on the request, it can generate graphics, charts, forms or other visual elements.
For example, a recipe could include an interactive cooking schedule. A road-trip plan could include a map with different stops. Users could also change inputs to explore different outcomes.
This makes ChatGPT feel less like a traditional chatbot and more like an interface for completing tasks.
ChatGPT can build tools inside a conversation
GPT-6 also expands what users can create without leaving ChatGPT.
The model can generate interactive calculators, bill splitters and games within a conversation. Users do not need to open another website or application for these experiences.
The system can also decide whether an interactive interface makes sense. If a simple text response is more useful, it can stick with text instead.
OpenAI says it tested these generated interfaces for clarity, usefulness and completeness. That suggests the company is focusing not only on what GPT-6 says, but also on how users interact with the answer.
GPT-6 can start answering before finishing the task
GPT-6 also changes how ChatGPT handles longer requests.
The model can begin responding before it has finished processing everything. Users can therefore start reading the initial part of an answer while GPT-6 continues working on the remaining sections.
This could make complex requests feel faster, even when the underlying task still requires more processing.
The improvement also extends to web searches. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant started responding to web-search queries 44% sooner than GPT-5.6 Instant in its tests.
That could be particularly useful for research-heavy prompts where ChatGPT needs to search for information before producing an answer.
GPT-6 also gets stronger safety protections
OpenAI has also focused on safety with the new model.
GPT-6 is designed to better handle attempts to bypass its safeguards across multiple turns. The company has also added protections around high-risk misuse involving cyberattacks, biological threats and violence.
Another improvement involves uncertainty. GPT-6 is better at recognising when it lacks enough information or the necessary tools to answer a question.
That could help reduce situations where the model confidently produces an answer despite not having sufficient context.
GPT-6 rollout starts across ChatGPT
GPT-6 with Intelligent UI has started rolling out globally to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users.
Free and Go users are also beginning to receive access from October 8. Paid tiers will get GPT-6 Sol, while GPT-6 Luna will power the Free and Go tiers.
Enterprise users may need their workspace administrator to enable the update.
For now, the rollout applies to the Chat tab in ChatGPT. OpenAI has said that the models used for Work and Codex are not changing as part of this update.
The bigger shift with GPT-6, therefore, is not only about generating better answers. ChatGPT is moving towards creating usable interfaces around those answers, making the conversation itself a place to interact, calculate, explore and create.
