Amazon has unveiled a completely redesigned Kindle family. The new lineup includes the Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft.
The company has redesigned the devices around a new reverse-stack display construction. Amazon says this is the first time such an approach has been used in the e-reader category.
As a result, the new Kindle devices feature flush-front displays without a raised border around the screen. Amazon says the redesign also helps make the devices thinner and more portable.
The company has also introduced edge-to-edge color across the lineup.
Gets smaller and faster design
The new 6-inch Kindle is the most pocket-sized Kindle Amazon has made. It comes with 16GB of storage and offers up to six weeks of battery life.
Amazon also claims the device opens books 30% faster than the previous release.
The Kindle uses a housing made with recycled materials. It also features a 100% recycled cobalt battery.
The standard model starts at $149.99 and comes in Ube and Graphite.
Amazon is also offering the Kindle with an aluminum back for the first time. This version uses 80% recycled aluminum with a matte finish.
It comes with 32GB of storage and starts at $189.99. The aluminum version is available in Alpine Sky Aluminum and Seaglass Green Aluminum.
Paperwhite gets thinner with a new display
The new Kindle Paperwhite is thinner and lighter than the previous generation.
It features a waterproof design and an adjustable warm light for reading at different times of the day. Amazon claims up to 12 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
The Paperwhite uses an oxide-thin film transistor backplane. Amazon says it delivers the largest Paperwhite display with the highest contrast ratio in the lineup.
The company says the display produces deeper blacks and clearer text. It is designed to maintain readability in bright sunlight as well as darker environments.
The standard Paperwhite comes with 16GB of storage and starts at $199.99 in Graphite.
The Paperwhite Signature Edition adds an aluminum rear housing and 32GB of storage. It also gets an auto-adjusting front light, pogo pin dock charging and double-tap page turning.
The Signature Edition costs $249.99 and comes in Graphite and Seaglass Green.
Kindle Colorsoft focuses on paper-like color
Amazon has also redesigned the Kindle Colorsoft around color reading.
The company says the display delivers paper-like color without the glare associated with traditional tablet screens. The format is designed for content such as comics, graphic novels and travel guides.
The Colorsoft uses a light guide with nitride LEDs to enhance color and brightness. Amazon says its custom display technology also maintains detail while improving contrast.
The display uses an oxide backplane and custom waveforms for performance. Micro-deflectors in the light guide aim to reduce stray light and improve uniformity.
The redesigned display stack also uses an ultra-thin optical coating to improve clarity.
The standard Colorsoft comes with 16GB storage and starts at $289.99 in Graphite.
The Colorsoft Signature Edition adds aluminum housing, 32GB storage, an auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turning and pogo pin dock charging.
It costs $319.99 and comes in Graphite and Fig.
Amazon expands Kindle lineup for children
Amazon is also updating its Kids Kindle range.
The new Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft will all have Kids versions. These models include covers designed by artists and come with 12 months of Amazon Kids+.
Amazon Kids+ provides access to thousands of books and audiobooks.
The company says children using Kindle devices read for more than an hour a day on average. The devices are designed without notifications, apps or messaging.
The new Kids Kindle starts at $179.99. Kindle Colorsoft Kids is available for preorder in the US, Canada, UK, Germany and Japan.
New Kindle accessories add physical page controls
Amazon is also introducing new accessories built around the redesigned Kindle lineup.
The Kindle Click is a $34.99 Bluetooth remote designed specifically for page turning. It can be used while reading in bed, exercising or travelling.
Amazon says it works with all new Kindle devices and Kindle models released from 2024 onward.
The $79.99 Page-Turn Cover adds physical page-turn buttons to compatible Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition models. It uses pogo pin connectivity while maintaining the slim design.
Amazon is also launching a $59.99 Charging Dock for the Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition.
New Kindle covers start at $39.99 and come in knit fabric, plant-based leather and pebbled premium leather.
New Kindle lineup starts rolling out globally
The new Kindle and aluminum Kindle are available from October 1 in several markets, including the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft are also beginning their preorder rollout across the same regions.
Amazon says availability will take place on a rolling basis.
The company says Kindle has recorded double-digit global growth for three consecutive years. More than 720 billion pages were read on Kindle devices in 2025 alone.
