Foldables have reached an interesting stage in 2026. The question is no longer whether a phone should fold. Instead, buyers now have to decide which foldable gets the experience right.

Two phones make that decision particularly interesting: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

Both sit firmly in the premium segment. However, they take different approaches to the idea of a foldable phone. Samsung has focused on making the Fold 8 more compact and practical. Google, meanwhile, combines a large screen with Pixel software, AI and photography.

I have used both phones, and there is a fairly clear difference in what each one does best.

Samsung wins the design battle

The biggest advantage of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 becomes obvious before you even open it.

Samsung has changed the proportions of the Fold 8, giving it a 4:3 design. At 201g and 9.7mm thick when folded, it feels considerably easier to carry than Google’s foldable.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold weighs 239g and measures 10.1mm when folded. That makes it 38g heavier than the Fold 8. Its 155.2mm height also makes the Pixel feel like a large phone when you use it one-handed.

That difference matters more than it sounds.

A foldable spends a lot of time folded. Therefore, its everyday usability depends just as much on the outside form as the big screen inside.

Google has the bigger inner display

Google fights back once you open the phone.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has an 8-inch inner Super Actua Flex display, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers a 7.6-inch panel. Google’s screen also reaches 3,600 nits peak brightness and supports a 1–120Hz refresh rate.

Samsung’s display remains excellent, though. Its 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel delivers a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness.

In practice, both screens provide the large canvas you expect from a premium foldable. Still, Google gets the edge if your priority is maximum screen real estate.

There is one important catch. Google’s crease remains more noticeable, while Samsung has made the crease on the Fold 8 considerably harder to spot.

Samsung makes better use of the foldable format

This is where Samsung’s experience shows.

One UI offers a mature multitasking experience. Split-screen apps, floating windows and other productivity tools make sense on the larger display.

Google’s Pixel software is excellent in a different way. Gemini is deeply integrated into Android 17, while features such as Gemini Live, Circle to Search, Live Translate and Call Assist add plenty of intelligence. Google also introduces features such as HiLight, Rambler and Bubbles.

However, if you buy a foldable primarily because you want to work differently on a large screen, Samsung still has the stronger argument.

Google’s AI experience feels more natural. Samsung’s foldable experience feels more mature.

Samsung has the performance advantage

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, while Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold uses the Tensor G6 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage in the review configuration.

The benchmark gap is significant. The Pixel recorded 2,281 single-core and 5,779 multi-core in Geekbench. The Fold 8 reached 3,510 and 9,456 respectively in the supplied testing.

Yet, don’t mistake benchmark results for a poor Pixel experience. The Pixel remains smooth in everyday use and handles demanding games well. Google’s Tensor approach simply puts more emphasis on AI and optimisation than raw benchmark performance.

Pixel remains the photography choice

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold makes a strong argument with its camera system.

It gets a 48MP primary camera, a 10.5MP ultrawide and a 10.8MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom. Google also pushes Super Zoom to 30x.

The main camera performs particularly well in daylight and low light. Google’s processing also keeps the images natural rather than excessively processed.

Samsung’s cameras are no longer a reason to avoid the Fold 8. The 50MP primary camera produces detailed images, while portraits and video also perform strongly.

However, Google’s Pixel processing gives it an advantage for buyers who put photography near the top of their list.

Battery and charging

Both phones should comfortably get through a demanding day.

Samsung’s Fold 8 packs a 4,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging, while Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold uses a 4,806mAh battery with 30W wired charging. Google does, however, support up to 25W wireless charging through Qi2.2 Pixelsnap.

So, Samsung gets the advantage for wired charging, while Google offers the more interesting wireless charging upgrade.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Pixel 11 Pro Fold: Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the better all-round foldable.

It is lighter, thinner, easier to carry and more mature when it comes to multitasking. Its Snapdragon chip also gives it a significant performance advantage. Most importantly, Samsung’s new proportions make the Fold feel more natural as an everyday smartphone.

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold, however, is far from a weak alternative. Its larger 8-inch inner display, Pixel camera experience, Gemini integration and seven years of updates make it particularly attractive to users who prioritise AI, photography and Google’s software ecosystem.

Price also matters. At Rs. 1,79,999, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts Rs. 7,000 below the Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s Rs. 1,86,999 price. The Pixel does offer 16GB RAM and 512GB storage in its listed configuration, so the comparison is not entirely like-for-like.

Buy the Galaxy Z Fold 8 if: you want the best balance of portability, performance, multitasking and foldable usability.

Buy the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold if: you care more about Pixel photography, Gemini-powered features, a larger inner display and Google’s software experience.

For me, Samsung has the edge. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 feels like the more complete foldable, while the Pixel 11 Pro Fold feels like the smarter alternative for a very specific kind of user.
