• DJI has launched the Osmo 360 II as the successor to last year’s Osmo 360.
• The camera uses two 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensors with an f/1.9 aperture.

DJI has launched its latest flagship 360-degree action camera, the Osmo 360 II. The new model succeeds last year’s Osmo 360 and focuses heavily on video quality, dynamic range and low-light performance.

The biggest upgrade comes in video recording. The DJI Osmo 360 II can capture native 8K panoramic video at up to 60 frames per second. It can also record 6K panoramic video at up to 60fps.

Moreover, DJI claims the camera delivers up to 14.5 stops of dynamic range. According to the company, that is twice the dynamic range offered by its predecessor.

Dual Square Sensors Aim to Improve 360-Degree Capture

The Osmo 360 II uses two 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensors. Each sensor features an f/1.9 aperture and supports an ISO range from 100 to 51,200.

DJI says the square sensor design makes better use of the available sensor area. The company claims it improves sensor utilisation by 25 percent while providing a panoramic field of view comparable to a traditional 1-inch sensor.

The two lenses can also expose scenes independently. As a result, DJI says the camera can retain more detail when a scene contains significant differences between bright and dark areas.

Furthermore, the Osmo 360 II introduces AI Super Night 2.0. The feature works with the f/1.9 aperture to improve video quality in low-light conditions.

120-Megapixel Photos and AI Subject Tracking

The camera is not limited to high-resolution video. It can capture 120-megapixel panoramic photographs at a resolution of 15,520 x 7,760 pixels.

For creators who want more control, the Osmo 360 II supports 10-bit colour recording across its video modes. It also supports D-Log M for manual colour grading during post-production.

Meanwhile, DJI has added AI-powered subject tracking. The system can identify a subject, follow it and keep it centred within the frame.

However, there is a limitation. The tracking feature works only in panoramic tracking mode and supports resolutions up to 4K.

Built for Outdoor Shooting

The Osmo 360 II comes with an IP68-rated body. DJI says users can take the camera underwater to depths of up to 10 metres without an additional case.

Storage should also prove less restrictive for long recordings. The camera includes 128GB of built-in storage and supports microSD cards with capacities of up to 1TB.

For connectivity, the camera supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and USB Type-C.

Additionally, DJI has integrated its OsmoAudio technology. This allows the camera to connect directly with compatible DJI microphone transmitters, including the DJI Mic 3 and DJI Mic Mini 2.

Up to 100 Minutes of 8K Recording

The DJI Osmo 360 II packs a 2,150mAh battery. DJI claims it can deliver up to 100 minutes of 8K/30fps panoramic recording on a single charge.

The camera also supports a wide operating temperature range. It can work between -20 degrees Celsius and 45 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for a variety of outdoor shooting conditions.

DJI also offers two bundles in China. The Standard Combo costs CNY 3,299, which is roughly Rs. 46,700. It includes the camera, one 2,150mAh cold-resistant battery, two lens protectors and a camera pouch.

The Adventure Combo costs CNY 3,999, or roughly Rs. 56,600. It adds two more batteries, a multifunctional battery case, an adjustable dual-direction quick-release adapter and a 1.2m invisible selfie stick.

DJI has not yet announced the India price or availability of the Osmo 360 II.

With native 8K/60fps recording, higher claimed dynamic range, improved night shooting and 120-megapixel panoramic photos, the Osmo 360 II targets creators who want more flexibility from a 360-degree camera. Its India launch details, however, remain awaited.
