OnePlus has confirmed that it will no longer launch new smartphones and other products in Europe and North America, marking a major shift in its global strategy. The announcement follows reports that the company was restructuring its international business as demand for smartphones continues to slow worldwide.

Despite ending future product launches in these markets, OnePlus said existing customers will continue to receive software updates and after-sales support.

Why is OnePlus leaving the US and Europe?

In a statement shared with TechCrunch, OnePlus said it had made the decision after a “careful assessment.”

The company stated that it would no longer introduce new products in Europe and North America. However, it emphasized that customer rights, including device servicing and software support, would remain unaffected.

The confirmation came after a Bloomberg report suggested OnePlus was winding down operations in the US and Europe as part of a broader corporate restructuring at Oppo, its parent company.

The report also claimed that OnePlus could reduce operations in India, although the company has not officially commented on that part of the report.

What is driving the strategy change?

The decision comes at a challenging time for the smartphone industry. Market research firms IDC and Counterpoint have projected a significant decline in global smartphone shipments during 2026, citing weak consumer demand and an ongoing shortage of memory chips.

Counterpoint recently reported that Oppo experienced a double-digit year-over-year decline in shipments during the second quarter of 2026. The research firm attributed the slowdown to weaker demand across many of the company’s major markets.

According to Bloomberg, Oppo plans to continue operating the OnePlus brand in China while expanding Realme’s presence in certain overseas markets, including parts of Northern Europe.

What does this mean for OnePlus users?

For current OnePlus customers in Europe and North America, the company says nothing changes immediately. Existing devices will continue to receive software updates, and after-sales services will remain available.

However, future OnePlus smartphones are not expected to launch in these regions, signaling the end of a market presence the company built over more than a decade.

Founded in 2013 by Pete Lau and Carl Pei, OnePlus gained popularity with its “flagship killer” smartphones that combined premium hardware with competitive pricing. Over the years, it expanded into premium devices and the affordable Nord lineup, becoming a recognized Android brand in several global markets.

The latest decision reflects a broader shift in the smartphone industry, where brands are increasingly concentrating resources on markets with stronger demand and sustainable growth. For OnePlus, that now appears to mean prioritizing China over further expansion in the West.
