Sony has launched the Sony IER-M500 as a new pair of wired professional in-ear monitors (IEMs) aimed at musicians, live performers, and audio professionals. The new earphones combine a compact 5mm dynamic driver with High-Resolution Audio support, a sealed acoustic structure, and an ergonomic fit to deliver reliable monitoring during live performances and studio sessions.

The IEMs are currently available for pre-order in the United States through Sony’s official online store, with deliveries expected to begin in late August.

What does the Sony IER-M500 offer?

The Sony IER-M500 is designed specifically for professional monitoring rather than casual music listening. Sony says the earphones were developed with input from professional monitoring engineers to ensure accurate sound reproduction during live performances.

At the heart of the earphones is a 5mm dynamic driver that supports High-Resolution Audio playback. The IEMs deliver a frequency response of 10Hz to 40,000Hz, allowing them to reproduce deep bass and detailed high frequencies.

Sony has also adopted a sealed acoustic structure with a large internal acoustic chamber. According to the company, this design helps improve passive noise isolation while maintaining balanced and controlled sound output.

What are the key specifications?

The Sony IER-M500 has a sensitivity rating of 103dB per milliwatt and an impedance of 16 ohms at 1kHz. It uses an approximately 1.6-meter Y-type cable with an L-shaped stereo mini plug, making it suitable for stage and professional monitoring setups.

Sony also says the connector system is built for repeated plugging and unplugging, an important feature for performers and sound engineers who frequently switch equipment.

The earphones weigh around 6.9 grams without the cable, making them lightweight for extended use.

To improve comfort, Sony includes flexible ear hangers, five fitting supporters, and four sizes of noise-isolating ear tips. The package also comes with a cable clip and a carrying case.

The company adds that the IEMs are designed to withstand sweat and moisture during long sessions. Clear left and right markings also help users quickly identify each earpiece in low-light environments.

Sony IER-M500 price and availability

The Sony IER-M500 is priced at $119.99 (approximately Rs. 11,500) in the U.S.

Buyers can choose from Black, Clear, or Red and Blue color options. The professional earphones are currently available for pre-order through Sony’s official website, with deliveries expected between August 20 and August 21.

With the Sony IER-M500, Sony is expanding its lineup of professional audio products by offering performers and creators a lightweight, wired monitoring solution that combines Hi-Res Audio support, secure fit, and stage-ready durability.
